MANILA, Philippines — A person deprived of liberty (PDL) was killed and two others were injured in a stabbing early morning of January 2 inside the Maximum Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Based on the report submitted by NBP acting Superintendent, Corrections Chief Inspector Roger Boncales, the incident took place at 7:15 a.m. at Gate 1-A, Quadrant 4 of the Maximum Security Compound.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), which manages the national penitentiary, withheld the names of those involved until the families had been informed.

Marcos made the pronouncement during the Philippine Strategic Trade Management (STM) Summit 2024 in Taguig City, the first time the country hosted the forum.
Due to the incident, BuCor ordered all superintendents of all operating prison and penal farms to take precautionary measures to ensure that no retaliation would transpire at their respective jurisdictions.
Article continues after this advertisement“To prevent any untoward incident while the incident is being investigated, the Bucor Headquarters directed all superintendents of operating and prison farms to take precautionary measures at their respective OPPFs to ensure the safety of both PDLs and staff,” BuCor said in a statement.
