The 'Delhi Chalo' marchuna game, led by hundreds of farmers from Haryana and Punjab, was suspended on Saturday evening following a violent clash between farmers and the police.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher from Punjab told reporters that the two farmer forums had decided to "call back our jatha", as reported by PTI.
Pandher confirmed that 17-18 farmers were injured during the clash, which involved tear gas shelling by Haryana security forces.
Farmer leader Manjit Singh Rai further alleged that security personnel used rubber bullets, with one farmer sustaining serious injuries. "Both forums have decided to call back the jatha for today, and further actions will be discussed in a meeting," Rai said.

However, Ambala Cantt Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajat Gulia denied these allegations.
Pandher expressed frustration over the lack of attention to farmers' issues in Parliament, especially amid ongoing discussions on the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. "No one is raising the voice for farmers in Parliament," he said. "We want to know which Constitution applies to our protest. How can a group of 101 farmers pose a threat to the country’s law and order?"
"Amit Rohidas was suspended for one match for a breach of the FIH Code of Conduct which occurred during the India vs Great Britain match on August 4," a FIH official statement read.
The protest, led by organizations such as the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), is driven by demands for fair compensation and benefits under new agricultural laws.
The farmers, who have been camping at the border since February 2023, were met with further aggression as they faced tear gas shelling and water cannons during their march. It resulted in several injuries. Despite repeated clashes with security forces, the protesters remain unwavering in their resolve to press on with their demands until they are met.
This protest marks the 307th day since the farmers first gathered at the Shambhu border.
The peasants are marching for a range of demands, including a legal guarantee for MSP to ensure fair prices for their produce, farm debt waivers and pensions for farmers and agricultural laborersuna game, a reversal of electricity tariff hikes, withdrawal of police cases filed against farmers during previous protests, justice for victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence and the reinstatement of the 2013 Land Acquisition Act, along with compensation for families of farmers who lost their lives during past agitations.
